Till We Have Faces Assignment - Blake Bauserman

"The gods have heard the complaint of Orual. We will now pass out judgment. Epsilos, step forward, and read our decision."

"I Epsilos, the god of the poet and traveler, guardian of the mountains far beyond the Grey Mountain, and sovereign of the Valley therein shall read the judgment of my fellow gods and pass the sentence that I deem most fitting for you Orual."

"You have claimed that the gods have wronged you, but we have done no such thing. We, the gods, are sovereign and do as we see fit. We were gracious in our sending of the goddess Istra to your world. We, too, were especially gracious to you by sending you a sister such as Istra. She was to be a blessing to you through fostering a spirit of humility and self-sacrifice, and she was supposed to be a blessing through the world through her beauty and kindness."

"Furthermore, you have slandered our names through your words and your self-hatred. You were a creation made with purpose, one which you have defiled. You were to learn contentment by letting her pass from you. A lesson you were to pass on. Instead, you have fostered within yourself a spirit of greed and jealousy. You tried to take for your own, which was never meant to be your own. In such a spirit, you have created false charges, which reveal your twisted character and your ignorance of the will of the gods. In these charges, we find you guilty."

"As your charges have now been read and your status before the gods made known, I, Epsilos, shall pass my judgment."

"With the knowledge of your love of the Greek, you shall too be made to suffer like one of the greediest among them. Like Tantalus, what you desire shall always be out of your reach. As god of the travelers, I make you one of my subjects. You shall wander the world, not knowing the rest of contentment. You will hear stories of a wonderful woman who you know to be your sister Psyche. You will try to go ahead to the location she is said to appear in, but you will always miss her. You will curse the gods and make yourself the villain you have claimed the gods made you be. Your days will never end, and you shall always want."

"This judgment is final, now pass from our company and depart from the Grey Mountain to begin your journey and your sentence.
