Danielle Hawkins: Lewis likes myth, like a lot
So I really like reading C.S. Lewis, but I only started reading him two years ago. I decided for one of the blogs that we use an outside book to observe Lewis' The Great Divorce. This book is about a writers journey from Hell to get a glimpse of what Heaven could be like if he choose to stay there. As the people who rode the bus from Hell to Heaven travel though out the land of Heaven they are encouraged by residents in Heaven to join them but many refuse the offer for things they see as "greater." They refuse to abandon their past life for endless joy and a greater reality. While reading this book I was able to have a better connection to the truth I believe that lies in Heaven. Lewis has a unique opportunity to connect a lot of people to the Gospel through his use of myth and it is a great tool to open peoples eyes to it in a unique special way. I would be interested to see how many of his books include myth in them.
