Katelyn Joyce- Til We Have Faces Assignment

Orual steps timidly before a panel of gods set before her. Their faces are unable to be seen as they are only visible through their shadowy outlines. Suddenly, a bright yellow light illuminates the god seated at the very center of the panel. A voice booms over her. It echoes throughout the chamber, rattling the walls.

“Greetings Orual, Queen of Glome. You have come here to present your dissatisfactions with our works. I, Pistis, the God of Trust and Protection, is here to present you with a trial contrary to your original intentions. I have observed your actions in Glome over your lifetime. It has become clear to be for a great time now that you have not been acting in a manner according to the standards the gods have set before you. Through witnessing your progress in life, I have come to conclude that trust has not been at the center of your actions.”

“You did not trust the words of your sister Psyche. You let your eyes be the judge of existence. You did not trust the experiences of Psyche and the palace in the valley. Through this distrust allowed evil to enter your heart, a place where it is not meant to be. You tested the love your sister has for you through the potential death of her and yourself.”

“You also requested a sign from us, which you believe you did not receive. A sign was sent, but your eyes were already fixed on the outcome it desired. You refused to trust that we would provide guidance. We are not simply characters in a story that gets passed down. There is truth within us. When ignoring our sign, you failed to recognize the role we play in reality.”

“Because of this you deserve death. You deserve to be seperated from all that you love and all that brings you joy. You deserve a life of darkness.”

“But, Orual, Queen of Glome, I recognize your role as ruler of Glome. You have a great influence over your people. There are many lessons one can take away from today. Your role as leader is to pass down this knowledge to your people. You can make a great impact in many individuals' lives. The lessons you have learned have the potential to keep others from earning the same death that you have. For this reason alone, I am giving you a second chance at life. If you do not use this opportunity to bless others and pass along teachings of trust, you will return here and face death.”
