Danielle Hawkins: What colors your life?

While reading Mere Christianity, it was interesting to see how much of Lewis life was impacted by his pursuit of a relationship with God and how it colored his whole life. "If you want joy, power, peace, eternal life, you must get close to, or even into the thing that has them. ... They are a great fountain of energy and beauty spurting up at the very centre of reality" (176). This quote reminded me of the conversation we had in class about whether the Chronicles of Narnia was an allegory or not. The quote from Mere Christianity shows me that it did not matter if he intended for them to be an allegory, it would happen naturally. His whole life was changed (as it should be) and his life became centered around following Christ. At the end of the chapter that quote is in, Lewis states that "every Christian is to become a little Christ" (177). I believe from the works I have read from Lewis, that he did just that. He could not help but point/ include something that points to the greater truth in each of his books. I think he saw the change that occurred in his life (for the betterment of it) when he started to follow Christ and wanted to see people also experience that same change. His testimony pointed to a greater truth, much like his use of myth in his works. This class has allowed me to open my eyes to the world of myth and how beautiful it is used. Myth brings us into reality. Lewis' reality was Christ. He used myth to point to Christ and it was beautiful and an honor to be able to read.

Lewis is a great example of what a Christian should look like (at least from reading his works, not sure what his personal life was like). Following Christ is not/ should not just be an addition to your life. It should completely change your life. This is not something you can be lukewarm about. To be a follower of Christ, you put off your self and put more of him on. It literally should shape and color your entire life.

I would almost go as far to say that anything that you do in life should color it and effect it. Especially the really important things in a person's life.
